Events at the local, state and national level are planned to celebrate National Agriculture Week, which runs through March 22 and for Ag Day which is March 20. Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer highlighted some of the reasons agriculture should be celebrated.
"Agriculture is important as a huge part of our economy," Schafer says. "It creates jobs, it helps feed the world and it is the largest positive to our nation's net trade balance."
Schafer and USDA hosted the kick-off event last week aptly titled a National Celebration of Agriculture.
"Our farmers and ranchers do a good producing food and fiber for our daily needs," Schafer says, "And they stimulate other jobs too."
