Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., says he is pretty close to an agreement with Senate Republican leaders on a procedure to consider and complete action on a small business package this week. On the Senate floor Monday Reid said he has been in talks with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., about voting on various amendments to the underlying small business bill.

That bill includes a $30 billion small business lending fund and $12 billion in tax breaks for small businesses. Amendments related to the estate tax, the biodiesel tax credit and other non-agriculture issues have been floated as possibilities.

Reid's goal is to complete this matter this week. The Senate begins its summer recess this Friday. The House is already in recess and both houses of Congress will return to Washington on Sept. 14.
