Weather stress showed
Many traditional corn and soybean counties in Iowa and Illinois had outstanding years. But areas on the fringe of the main production area suffered from adverse weather.
Record corn yields appear to limit potential for payments in many areas.
Corn growers generally did better with ARC in the first years of the program, but lower prices and higher yields lower payments.
Great, but not a record
Soybean yields were good in 2017, but fell far short of the record from 2016.
Growers on the Plains and eastern Midwest suffered from weather, and could receive more for 2017 as a result.
Many growers haven’t received much if any ARC payments and that may not change for 2017.
