Several Remaining Bills Become Laws

On Dec. 22, President Bush signed a handful of bills into law, including two that affect some farmers.

The White House Press Secretary said in an official release that President Bush signed several bills into law Dec. 22, and two of those laws may affect some farmers.

The "Rural Water Supply Act of 2006" (S. 4093) authorizes a rural water supply program and loan guarantees for various rural water supply projects and infrastructure.

S. 4093 extends certain borrowers' eligibility for USDA guaranteed operating loans until September 30, 2007.

Several agricultural bills never made it out of the 109th Congress, including the agriculture appropriations bill with a farm disaster aid amendment and the Water Resources Development Act, which would have authorized improvements on water transportation systems.

The 110th Congress will have its first regular session Jan .4.
